QA is the new brand promise

QA is the new brand promise

Midnite, a UK betting app, ran an ad built entirely around technology failing. Wifi drops. A card reader jams. Everything around two stoic customers falls apart, except one thing: “our app, at least, is actually pretty good.”

It’s a funny ad, and a bold claim to hang a whole brand promise on. Not that you’re the cheapest. Not that you’re the most innovative. That you tested the thing, and it works.

Follow the ad’s own welcome-offer link and you land on a URL carrying eleven separate tracking parameters. Layers of tooling, bolted on by different teams, with nobody clearly owning what the final product looks like to the person actually clicking it. The punchline undercuts itself on the first click.

The broader industry pattern

That’s not really a Midnite problem. It’s what happens once AI makes “good enough” cheap to produce everywhere. Developers already have a name for the result: AI slop, code that runs, looks plausible, and quietly ships with the errors nobody caught, the placeholder values nobody swapped out, the logic nobody actually tested.

The extreme version of this made headlines when Replit’s AI coding agent deleted a production database, during a code freeze, the exact window that exists specifically to stop things like that from happening.

QA as competitive advantage

For a long time, QA was the compliance box, the thing you did because you had to, not the thing you led with. That’s shifting. When any competitor can use AI to generate a plausible product overnight, being able to credibly prove yours was actually tested stops being overhead and starts being the differentiator. Forbes called 2026 the year of an “AI quality reckoning,” and QA firms are already rebranding around assurance rather than testing, because assurance is the thing customers are starting to ask for by name.

The businesses that win this next stretch won’t be the ones that shipped fastest. They’ll be the ones that can actually show their work.
